| The Etruscan Coast
is in the centre of Tuscany, between Versilia to the north
and the Maremma region to the south. An area stretching
for 50 miles from Livorno to Piombino, characterized by
spectacular rocks and wide sandy beaches facing the Isle
of Elba. Not far inland are the gently rolling Tuscan
hills covered by vineyards and olive groves, a string
of medieval towns and villages, and the magnificent Etruscan
city of Volterra. The area is best known for olive oil
and wine (two fine wines, Sassicaia and Ornellai, are
produced in Bolgheri), but there is a wide range of fine
local produce. The unique microclimate (mild winters and
dry, breezy summers) make the Etruscan Coast the ideal
place for a holiday immersed in nature with endless opportunities
for relaxation, sport, culture and fine cuisine. |
